The global demand to reduce waste combined with the global drive to reduce reliance on fossil fuels has spurred GrahamTek to develop its patented Waste-to-Energy systems. 

 

The trade-in Refuse Derived Fuels (RDF) between the four West European markets (the UK, Netherlands, Germany, and Sweden) has reached 2.7 million tons per year (±US$ 3 Billion per year). Also, the global Waste-to-Energy market is currently ±US$ 23.7 Billion and expected to grow to ±US$ 37.5 Billion by 2020, with the European markets having approximate 9.9% year-on-year growth rate and the Americas a 5.7% year-on-year growth rate. As a result of an increasing loss of land availability, most European countries are adopting “Zero-Landfill” strategies to be achieved by 2020. The GrahamTek product range for RDF can reduce landfill airspace by 97% per ton processed in its production units.

The History

The use of Pyrolysis as a means to extract/recover oil from rubber and plastic has been in use for several decades. In the early 1950’s Bell Laboratories in the US started researching the commercial viability of Pyrolysis. Pyrolysis is a favored model to recycle used tires and other hydrocarbon plastics, and there are several suppliers offering equipment that is in use globally. It is a preferred method above that of incineration as the process does not create toxic metal residue or Dioxins and Furans as hazardous gasses. Since the mid-1980’s commercial use and application of Pyrolysis has been introduced in the market space and is widely used. Today Pyrolysis is a proven technology. The research materials, demonstration facilities, existing commercial facilities, and plants under construction provide ample proof that Pyrolysis is neither new nor untested. 

GrahamTek Fueltech Technology

GrahamTek is one of the globally known researchers in this technology, and as a result of its research and development, the GrahamTek Waste-to-Energy system is a leading design that produces fuel using no external catalytic chemicals, has a clean operation process and meets the requirements of the European and South African regulatory frameworks.

 

The GrahamTek Fueltech Technology was created in 2015 by GrahamTek to produce Alternative Refuse-derived Fuels (ARF). The products are Fuel Oils and Marine Gas Oil produced to the international standard for such fuels. The GrahamTek Fueltech Technology, ARF is a Waste-to-Energy process, which functions within the non-hazardous Waste Management Hierarchy. It is the Thermal Treatment (Category T4 - not for disposal purposes) of Category B General Waste. The initiative is a Waste Minimisation Programme aimed at reducing the disposal of waste to landfill.
